A few weeks ago I did my blog post talking about the elk viewing area in the Charles M. Russel wildlife refuge. Well this weekend on my way back to Billings I had time to stop. Even through on the page they say it isn't the best time to view, there were still hundreds of elk! It was very cool to see and I was able to take some pretty cool pictures.
These are just a few that I snapped with my phone(low quality), but I did take quite a few with the Canon camera that I plan on editing and putting on here soon!

Editing before and after
The Orange Post
Before
After
I applied by preset and brightened up the picture with bringing up the shadows and blacks so the interesting knot was visible. I also cropped in the picture some to get rid of empty space and the darker part of the tree in the back. I also enhanced the colors a little so the orange would pop a little more.

Slippery Ann Elk
The Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge encompasses
1.1 million acres of badlands, cottonwood river bottoms, coulees, sagebrush and grassy prairies. This beautiful place is located only 70 miles
south of my hometown. My father, being a wildlife biologist and working here for many years, likes to take me and show me around, even though it has changed in the 26 years sense he worked there.
This time of year is very popular, especially the Slippery Ann Elk Viewing Area. Here hundreds of elk gather for breeding during September and October before they split off to get ready for winter. It has always been fun to go and watch this but sense being in college I haven't had the time to stop by. This weekend, weather and rain fall permitting, I hope to visit and snap a few pictures!
